Our Image of the Child

Since September 2013, staff embarked on a project called “Making Children’s Learning Visible.” The aim was to develop more critical, reflective and differentiated teaching methods to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children. We wanted to use assessment data effectively to reflect on children’s progress. We worked with parents who shared their knowledge about their children’s learning and also our school governors in order to develop ‘Our Image of the Child’.

Together, through dialogue and discussion on aspirations for children at Stoneyholme Nursery School we arrived at six statements which underpin our practice. In this way we can communicate what we value and want to support in children’s development and learning.

To freely use all their senses to explore their natural curiosity about the world in which they live.

To feel secure and comfortable in their own skin.

To be good communicators.

To be confident and have a go.

To be independent learners.

To be creative and imaginative.
