The Outdoor Environment

Our Outdoor Area offers what indoors cannot, complementing and extending provision indoors. We are fortunate to have an inspiring outdoor area for children to explore. It is a place where children can choose, create, change and be in charge of their play environment and they are encouraged to play outdoors daily. We have eight hens, a cockerel and a rabbit called Daisy in the Forest Area and this together with our access to the Secret Orchard Garden is a place of challenge and creativity where the children act out stories, make dens and let their imagination fly. We also have a mud kitchen for children to concoct their own recipes and potions.

Our gardening consultant, Margaret Foster comes into nursery every Tuesday to work with the children who learn about the natural world and observe the seasonal changes. Activities range from making bird feeders to planting vegetables and flowers.

During their time with us the children have opportunities to explore environments further afield such as the farm, the zoo and theatre trips.
